The link between adrenal fatigue and fertility

Stop drinking coffee if you want to get pregnant.

Yes, I said it.

Because if your body is already exhausted, depleted, and running on stress…

coffee isn’t helping you—it’s keeping you stuck.

I see this all the time with women navigating chronic illness and fertility struggles.

They’re doing everything “right”…
but they’re relying on caffeine just to get through the day.

And no one is talking about what that actually does.

Caffeine pushes your body into a stimulated state.
It elevates stress hormones.
It gives you temporary energy—while borrowing from reserves you don’t have.

So you feel better… until you crash.
And then you reach for it again.

This cycle keeps your body in survival mode.

And a body in survival mode does not prioritise ovulation, hormone balance, or conception.

It prioritises getting through the day.

So while it might feel like a small thing…

this is often one of the biggest blocks I see.

Coffee, chocolate, matcha, and other caffeine sources negatively affect adrenal health.

Animal foods like meat and bone broth add extra adrenaline into your system from the animal releasing adrenaline at the time of its death. These factors add up over time and can leave you feeling burnt out, reliant on those crutches, and struggling to conceive.

If you are planning to conceive and support a healthy pregnancy your body is asking for restoration, not stimulation.

When you remove the constant push and when you support your energy in a deeper, more sustainable way…everything begins to shift.

Energy stabilises.
Cycles regulate.
Your body starts to feel safe again.

And that’s when fertility can come back online.

“Adrenal fatigue can get in the way of fertility, because much of a woman’s progesterone, oestrogen, and testosterone are produced in her adrenal glands. When the adrenals are under- or overactive, her reproductive hormones are out of balance and can interfere with fertility.”

Anthony William –Medical Medium® Life-Changing Foods, pg. 493

Adrenal health affects progesterone, oestrogen, and testosterone — all three hormones needed for conception.
