Back in 2014 Siobhan and her sister Irene came to my home to interview myself and my Mum on The Girl Against Fluoride for a documentary for TG4 an Irish channel. After getting the key stuck in their car they ended up having to stay the night and it was the best thing that happened as we all got to know each other.
The last time we were all together was in Summer of 2017 when we had Professor Paul Connett of Fluoride Action Network come over to give talks. Siobhan and Irene hosted a fluoride free event in Galway where I spoke for the first time publicly about my new direction with the campaign. I was delighted to meet Diarmuid, Siobhan’s partner that weekend. My Mum and I previously met Diarmuid at a retreat in the Wicklow mountains a few years previous. Awakening souls always connect and see each other.
Today I invited Siobhan De Paor onto the podcast to talk about conscious activism and her new direction. Siobhan is an advocate and spoken word poet and co-creator of The Wild Irish Retreats with her partner Diarmuid Lyng.
Siobhan shares about how when you enter a conscious live, certain behaviours you previously had dissolve. You shift from self centred to world centred perspective as you start to understand the Universal Laws of the common good. You understand about the collective and how your evolution doesn’t happen in a vacuum, it happens influenced by everyone around you.
Altruism and being of service to the greater good is what you’re called to do as you become conscious. Engaging your gifts and skills to offer your unique part to the world.
Responsibility comes when you enter a conscious life as you become aware that the world is a living thing.
The trees, plants and animals are sentient beings and you have a voice and means to protect those. Activism is a natural progression of awakening.
Previously we fought fire with fire in the old way of oppositional activism.
Now it’s about letting life to call you to what it’s calling you to do. Follow resonance and allow those who don’t resonant to fall away.
Siobhan shares a great example of what it was like working in mainstream media as a journalist.
Now as an advocate and spoken word poet she has taken on a whole new approach and in the process found her calling with the Wild Irish Retreats.
“The medium is the message” - Marshall McLuhan
You are the medium. People don’t join a cause they join you. The message is coming through you and you’ve got to ensure you have a clean channel.
It’s not about all that you know it’s your ability to surrender and trust that your message will reach those it’s meant to reach. Reaching the right people is simple and profound than reaching a greater number of people superficially.
Cultivate the resonance of wellbeing and surround yourself with people who you resonant with.
Siobhan and Diarmuid came together and communicated entirely through Irish. Their mission was sparked in the Kerry peninsula where there lies an amethyst rock, pristine nature and the Irish language. They found healing, love and a poetic calling through the Irish language.
They now lead Wild Irish Retreats where they immerse you in the Irish language in nature, foraging for wild food and enjoying a sweat lodge to reconnect you to the passion of speaking Irish.
Check out Wild Irish Retreat for their next retreat.
Now we’d love to hear from you. What was your number one insight from this episode? Let us know in the comments below to continue this conversation on conscious activism.
