As featured on Ireland AM – For Mothers who want to do EC and have the roadmap as a modern Mama
Elimination communication (EC) is a practice where parents learn to recognise and respond to your baby’s natural cues for peeing and pooing, rather than relying soley on nappies. This method involves observing the baby’s natural signals, like grunting or squirming, and then offering a potty or toilet to help them go in a more appropriate place.
EC can be practiced from birth, can be part-time or full-time, and is seen as a way to build a stronger connection with the baby and reduce nappy use and waste, saving you hundreds thousands in the process, and that’s just with one baby.
Benefits of Elimination Communication
Strengthens your connection and Mama intuition with your baby on all levels physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually
Prevents nappy rash, as it’s the combination of poo + pee that’s highly acidic on baby’s sensitive bum
Massive financial savings ranging in the thousands. When we learned that every baby sits in a bleached nappy for the first 1,000 days of their life and goes through ~6,000 nappies that take 400+ years to break down, there must be a better way and that is why EC supports baby, parents and nature.
Environmental benefits are outstanding preventing the thousands of nappies being thrown into landfill. It takes up to 500 years in a landfill for a standard disposable nappy.
Even “biodegradable” or “eco” nappies often still take several decades because landfill conditions lack oxygen and microbes needed for proper decomposition.
Are you curious about Elimination Communication but are overwhelmed to start?
This is why I created the Elimination Communication Mini Course to help you get started step by step, through all the phases.
This can work for you if you want to practice EC part time or commit to it full time. The main focus is on establishing a consistent daily practice of offering the potty to your baby so they learn that the potty is the toilet and not the nappy and you establish a rhythm that works for your family.
I practice EC with my son Rían since birth and we documenting the process so we could share with other mothers and fathers about the benefits of EC that we joyfully discovered with our son.
I was interviewed by the Irish Examiner, National Radio shows and was invited onto Ireland AM to share my experience of practicing Elimination Communication:
When Rìan was 9 months we went on the road in our campervan across Europe for 6 months and for the first few months the EC rhythm went out the window and we went from cloth nappies to eco friendly disposable nappies. So just know that this still works even when life throws your rhythm’s out the window. Once the weather got warm we got Rian out of nappy’s at 14 months during the day and into undepants and using his potty even after months of not practicing all the ground work we laid had clicked with Rían and he’s association was that the potty was his toilet and not his nappy. This experience taught me how beautifully flexible EC can be and how this can work for modern family’s.
I hope you enjoy diving in and best wishes with your EC journey.
